Small Quantity Lenticular Printing

Description

Small quantity lenticular printing is offered with either a 2 or 3 image flip effect on the front in Black & White or a Spot colour. The backside is screen printed opaque white with the option to print black ink over the white for text , a logo, barcode, QR code or image.

Sizes available represent the best value: 86 x 54 (credit card shape), 55 x 150 (bookmark), 65 x 140 and 86 x 140 (event card), 151 x 101 (postcard), 69 (round), 95, 140 and 300 mm (round or square).

When selecting which images to use, just remember to minimise flipping highly contrasting images otherwise say a black object in one image will likely ghost through the lighter area in the other, rather than be totally extinguished. 

Pricing includes phone footage of a low resolution inkjet proof mounted under a coarse lens. This is intended as a “mechanical print” only to gauge how it flips. Higher quality and better image extinction is achieved on the press.

Artwork Setup Guide

• Download the appropriate pdf template here: Artwork Templates and open in Adobe Illustrator.
• Colour mode is CMYK. Create one page per Flip image. For 2-sided printing include an extra page for the backside art and make it the last page.
  • Include document bleed of 5 mm.
• Place and embed an image on each Flip page. Each image must be in Gray colour mode (even if we’ll be printing it as a Spot colour), 100% size, and at 300 ppi resolution.
• Backgrounds in the images should contain detail or other imagery to help “lose” elements from the other images that would ghost through. Please avoid plain white and light mono toned backgrounds as they provide insufficient camouflage to hide elements ghosting through from the other images. The exception to this rule is when image 1 and 2 are exactly the same design, but with the colours reversed.
• Include our Dieline layer in your file.
• It’s best to consign text and logos to the backside. In regards to any text and numbers that will appear under the lenticular lens:
  • Avoid using small and fine text: fine lines might partially or completely disappear at some viewing angles.
    • Minimum font size for text which doesn’t flip: 8 pt bold
    • Minimum font size for text which flips: 12 pt bold
  • Avoid italics: diagonal lines will appear staircased under the lenticular lens.
  • Avoid Serif font styles: those small decorative lines or strokes (called serifs) attached to the ends of the main strokes of letters will partially or completely disappear at some viewing angles.
  • Convert text to outline.
  • Text which changes with each image should be:
    • White or light toned changing over a mid to dark toned background or background image with detail.
    • The same size and superimposed in the same position.
  • The same text which remains on across all two or three flip frames can be dark toned over white.
• For any backside print avoid large areas of solid black, because it will appear blotchy rather than uniform as a single colour black.
• Save as a Press Quality pdf.
• To review the pdf in Adobe Acrobat, choose Tools > Print Production > Output Preview > Simulate Overprinting on
